There are many studies out there that might imply that video games help us learn while others tell us they can cause younger children to become aggressive. Douglas A. Gentile ,Director of Research, argues how video games influence our brains to have positive and negative consequences.
Why do people play video games anyways? Some people believe that videogames can be a replacement for a book as many others would rather play video games then to grab a book and read it word by word. Some people just play video games for pure entertainment. Most schools in the United States have begun to use video games to teach students specific skills; whether it's teaching how to multiply or just simply teaching a student how to correctly use a word in a sentence.
How can video games teach negative consequences? Some video games, usually meant for mature children, can teach negative skills whether it's teaching curse words or inspiring younger children to commit crimes like theft or taking drugs. If a game has any inappropriate scenes or actions it's usually rated for 17+ but that does not mean a thirteen year old child won’t get their hands on this type of game.
With that being said, video games can impact the brain in a lot of different ways, like teaching a basic skill or just simply telling a story. Unfortunately they can also have a bad influence on a person that can lead to negative consequences. Most video games are made for entertainment and I hope that they will stay that way in the future.
